Zachary Adam Ertz: from junior to the professional player
Zachary Adam Ertz is an American football tight end for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. A native of Alamo, California, Ertz attended Stanford University, where he played college football for the Stanford Cardinal. Ertz played high school football at Monte Vista High School in Danville, California. As a senior in 2009, he had 47 receptions for 660 yards and eight touchdowns. He was named first-team All-East Bay Athletic League and second-team All-Contra Costa County. In addition to football, Ertz was also a member of the school’s track team.
When he was young, Zach dreamed of playing football for his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers. However, he knew that he would have to work hard to make it to the NFL.
Zach Ertz learned a lot during his college career at Stanford University. He was a part of the Cardinal team that won the 2013 Rose Bowl. In that game, he had two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown.
He was also named first-team All-Pac-12 in 2012 and second-team All-Pac-12 in 2011. During his time at the college, Zach had 134 receptions for 1826 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Ertz decided to forgo his senior year at Stanford and enter the 2013 NFL Draft.
The first professional football club Zach Ertz played for, of course, the Philadelphia Eagles. He was drafted by them in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
He had good statistics during his first season – 36 receptions for 455 yards and four touchdowns.
The following year, Zach had 58 receptions for 702 yards and three touchdowns.
But it was the 2017 season when he started to shine. That year, he set the Eagles’ franchise record for most receptions in a single season by a tight end, with 74.
Also he faced the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, which the Eagles won. Zach had caught seven passes for 67 yards during that game, including the winning touchdown catch with just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
After that historic moment, Zach Ertz was named a Super Bowl champion and a Pro Bowl selection.
Nowadays Zach Ertz is one of the best tight ends in the NFL and he is still playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Zach Ertz is married to professional soccer player Julie Johnston. The couple has one daughter, born in 2019.
His main hobby is, of course, football but he also likes golfing and spending time with his family.
Zach is also known for his involvement in charitable work. He has worked with the Boys & Girls Club, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
